Accumulated experience designing and building multi-cloud infrastructure and internal platforms across cloud security, genomics, and healthcare.

About

I'm Josh Ruggles. I live in New Hampshire and I've been doing infrastructure work for a little over a decade. I started out as a network engineer at a hospital, spent some years running infrastructure for a genomics lab, and these days I do platform ops in cloud security. Somewhere along the way the job turned from plugging in switches into writing code for the cloud.

At home it's more of the same with an on-prem homelab. The lab runs NixOS on everything that will take it, all of it declared in flakes. I like being able to wipe a node and have it back in ten minutes in a declared state.

Lately most of the fun has been AI. Self-hosted agents that answer me on Signal, MCP servers, wiring models into the lab so they can actually do things instead of just chat. Nearly everything I run is open source, and I try to give back where I can.

This site is where I write that stuff down. What I built, what broke, what I'd do differently next time. If a post helps you out, or you spot something I got wrong, my inbox is open.
